PGIAA Race and Social Justice Commission (RSJC)

Pacifica Graduate Institute Alumni Association (PGIAA) announces the creation of a Racial and Social Justice Commission with the mission to examine the state of racial and social justice for people of color.

The Race and Social Justice Commission (RSJC) is the Association’s commitment to realize the vision of racial equity. RSJI is an effort to end institutional racism and to achieve racial equity across our community.

The Commission, to include alumni/ae, students, faculty and community members, will examine ways to reduce racial disparities, treat all equally and proactively give the Pacifica community the opportunity to engage in dialog and work towards equitable solutions.

Areas of concern to the association include reviewing student/alumni services and their Pacifica education. The Association envisions a collaborative effort between the Pacifica Board of Trustees, Community Liaisons, allies, and the educational committee of the Commission.

Initially, the Commission will concentrate on fielding and responding to concerns from organizations and individuals regarding allegations of bias and/or racism. Among other things, the Commission will review current Pacifica practices and policies, including compliant processes.

The Commission will review and propose solutions for racial and social justice and create opportunities for discussions with appropriate Pacifica management. The Commission will identify areas of concern and research best practices from other institutions of higher learning and glean from what has been discovered through similar activities.
